Feel guilty for “indulging” in dessert? Eating “too much”? Or eating the “wrong” thing? Before making food your antagonist, remember — it’s not about the food! For us with disordered eating, our relationship with food is a metaphor.
Where is the guilt really coming from? What else in your life do you feel guilty about?
Use a pencil and write about why food is ruining your life. Then, erase all the words “food”. What other words could fill in those blanks and shed light on what’s going on on a deeper level?
